Under a Blood Red Moon

Updated on August 8, 2015

When light from the sun travels through the Earth’s atmosphere, pollution, and various other minute particles, can make the moon take on a reddish hue. This has been called a blood-red moon. Total lunar eclipses often make the moon appear red and many believe they have a prophetic significance.

There have been blood-red moons on the first day of Passover and the first day of Sukkot on back-to-back years seven times since 1 A.D. Three were connected to 1492, the final year of the Spanish Inquisition. In 1948, Israel became a nation. Then there was the War of Independence and the Six-Day War in 1967. These were all significant days in Jewish history. The Islamic calendar doesn't adjust for solar years so it is only approximate, but seven times ends sometime in 2026. So, could it be a sign for our generation? The seven times may not have a start date but be designating a period or era.

The year 2014-2015 on the Jewish calendar is a Jewish sabbatical year, as was 2008, which could be a forewarning of things to come. They have happened practically every seven years throughout Jewish history. Ezekiel 39 it says there will be a seven year clean up of the weapons in Israel. That means the time of the end era could begin in 2014 and the last date of the longer times will therefore be anywhere from 2021 to 2022. Of course, if using Iranian celebrations as a marker, it could possibly 2026.

In 2014-2015 there will be four lunar eclipses and two solar eclipses, all on Jewish holidays, including Rosh Hashanah, the Feast of Trumpets, on Sept. 14th in 2015. In 2015 the solar eclipses come first just as the prophecy says, then two weeks later the lunar eclipses occur. It won’t happen again this century.

During the period of 2013–2015, these are the dates to watch for:

First Day of Passover, April 15th, 2014
First Day of Sukkoth, Oct. 8th 2014
First Day of Passover, April 4th, 2015

Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement Sept. 23rd.

First Day of Sukkoth, Sept. 28th, 2015

The main reason people think blood red moons have important meanings are because of the number of scriptures associated with them. Some have speculated solar and blood moon eclipses in 2015 could fulfill end time milestones of Bible prophecy.

For instance, Joel 2:31 says, “…the sun shall be turned into darkness and the moon into blood.” Revelation 6:12 says, “….and the sun became black as a sackcloth of hair and the moon became like blood.

What these scriptures describe are solar and lunar eclipses. During solar eclipses the sun is obscured by the moon except for the corona around it. Lunar eclipses often cause the moon to appear as it has almost disappeared and have shades of orange and red.
